CLUB FISHING TRIP TO DEL VALLE

On May 22 (day after judgement day) club members Matt and
Gene HOY, Jim Robinson and Darold Givens with guest Justin
Prudel met at Del Valle Lake near Livermore for a friendly fishing
derby. We were to meet at the ramp at 7:30 but since Del Valle
is a mussel free lake, all boats are to me inspected for any signs
of standing water in their vessel. Darold’s boat had about a shot
glass full in the hold and was turned down. So….it was decided
to rent a boat at the concession. With a late start, Darold’s team
(Jim and Justin) trolled towards the dam and Darold caught a
nice 16 in. rainbow. The wind started howling and the trolling
stopped and bait fishing from the shore began.

It did not take long before trout started hitting the power bait set-
up. The team had two fish when the Hoy team started trolling by.
They pulled up but did not bait fish. They had caught one fish and
lost another at the boat. After they continued trolling, Darold’s
team ended up with 12 rainbows, from 12”-17”. The wind did play
havoc as trollers got tangled lines and small boats got sprayed
with splashing waves. Since this club trip had so few members in
attendance, it was hopeful that a local day trip would bring larger
attendance. Hopefully another trip will result in greater support.
