March 9, 2010 was a beautiful sunny Tuesday morning at Pacific Rod
& Gun Club. Mother Nature was truly accommodating for 32 Third
Grade Students from St. Brigid School in San Francisco. The
Students were on a mission to release some very small Trout in the
beginning of their Life Cycle as a class project.

Malia Peterson the Teacher and Brooke Halsey from the Tiburon
Salmon Institute and the Tyee Club, were empowering the Students
step by step with a very potent hands on demonstration connecting the
Students to the marine habitat.
Appreciation of the Environment was presented with some Native
American Indian philosophy rituals paying respect to nature.
After the fish were released into Lake Merced, the students went to
the Club House for a question and answer period concerning the
events of the day. They were given some Salmon hats and then some
treats provided by Jeanine and Gunard Mahl.
Zachery Butterfield (Fred’s 6 yr. old Grandson), then had an
opportunity to interview some students for a field trip report he was
doing for his 1st grade class at the Heather School in San Carlos.
Zachery also was given some casting lessons from John Cameron
who also brought back the 92 fishing Rods and Reels that he had
restored, that were donated to our Youth Fishing program from Cal-
Trout.
All and All, I would say this day has been a very good example of how
the Pacific Rod & Gun Club can be useful in helping Environmental
and Educational endeavors for the benefit of the public.
