EAGLE LAKE TRIP WAS A GREAT SUCCESS

This year the club members were invited to spend a fishing trip to Eagle Lake at a rented house.
Those that made it were Darold Givens, Jim Robinson, Bob Kruger and Harold Whitmore. The idea
was to have enough boats to accommodate all members in attendance. Since there was such a small
turnout, just two boats made the trip. It turned out to be a successful trip. Darold had his fishing boat
and Bob brought his boat. The water level was dangerously low so the launching was done carefully
out of the Spalding boat ramp. It was the week that the temperature was unseasonably hot and the bite
for the Eagle Lake trout had kicked into summer mode, which meant the fish were going deeper. We
made the adjustment and were able to catch some impressive trout. Although the limit is 2 fish, the
size made up for the small limit. The fish averaged from 17 in. to 21 in. and were solid pink meat.
There were two ways to fish these trout, catch them with night crawlers or troll with various flashers and
lures. We caught them both ways. Since we were there 7 days, we were able to explore the whole lake
and try different methods. Since the lake is near the Lassen Forest, there were mountains and pine
trees all around which made for a beautiful setting. The nice furnished house didn’t hurt either. It was a
great trip and I am sure we can do it again next year but with more attendance.
