Eagle Lake Club Fishout
By Darold Givens

Eagle Lake was a first time experience to club members Bob Kruger, Jim
Robinson, Harold Whitmore, Don Woods and Darold Givens. Darold brought
his 17 ft fishing boat and the gang stayed at a rental house in Spalding
which has a boat launch. The water was really low which meant the harbor
had only 2 ft of water in which to launch. The fishing was by trial and error.
Because the water level was so low, what worked previously for me would be
different now. We fished in 12-20 ft of water by trolling artificial grubs, lures
and night crawlers. The first day we caught two fish about 15" long. The next
day we tried another spot and caught 3 fish and on the last day, we caught 5
with the largest being 20".

The limit is two fish a day per person. These are a breed of rainbow that are
part Lehotian that are able to live in the high alkaline lake. The meat is blood
read and really tasty. The deer were also a treat. They would browse among
the houses, looking for a handout. The weather was perfect and we intend
on making another trip. The lake is 350 miles from Foster City.
