KEN & ROGERS STEELHEAD FISHING TRIP
By Roger Hatin

We drove up highway 101 to Bandon OR. What a beautiful time of the year, everything is
a nice shade of green. Instead of the California burned brown you see in the summer.
We started fishing the next morning with our guides Dan & Kale. Ken & Roger in one
boat and John & Fred in the other boat.

We started on the Elk River, a small river in the southwest corner of Oregon. No motors
allowed, so it was put in up river and drift down while fishing. Everyone but Roger got
hooked up. That afternoon we switched to a river called the Sixes, a few miles north of
the Elk. We caught a few fish there. Roger still had not gotten a bite. We went back and
fished the same two rivers the next day and Roger must have prayed to the fishing Gods,
he could do no wrong, he was catching fish on both sides of the boat. Amazing he still
used a hook!!!  One time both Roger and Ken hooked up at the same time. Kens fish
went down river and Rogers went up river and ended up slamming into the other boat,
we landed that fish, but Kens broke off. We moved to the Rouge River the next day where
motors are allowed, this allowed us to motor back up some long drifts and fish the same
area over. Roger continued with his beginners luck. The joke was he had the lucky chair,
so he switched with Ken; Then Ken started catching fish which started bidding for the
chair.  We had a great 3 day fishing trip and the fish was delicious.
