FIRST ANNUAL DEL VALLE CAMP/FISH DERBY

I want to thank all members who attended the camp out at Del Valle Lake in Livermore. I
am sure you were rewarded with nice weather, and great fishing. Three camp sites were
reserved and we had a motor home, trailer, tent trailer and camper using the facility. The
sites were clean and had water and sewer hookups. It was only 5 minutes from the
fishing/boat ramp. The campfire was hosted by Don Woods, cocktails hosted by
everyone.

Those that did not get a chance to spend the night were waiting anxiously on Saturday
morning for the derby. We had lots of boats and room to fish. Joe O Brien had his nice
Alumaweld, Bob Kruger got to try his new fishing boat, Keith Jones had his tried and true
Klamath and Darold had his 17’ Sylvan. Everyone had a chance to fish and even catch a
fish. The wind came up and we called it quits about 2PM. We headed to the nice picnic
site where the grill was set up to cook everyone’s BYOM. There were plenty of side
dishes.

The fishing stories were not hard to take. Bob Kruger won first place with a nice 9.2 lb.
trout and he chose a nice spinning rod as his prize. Darold came in second with a 5+
pound trout. The meal ended and those that came only for fishing had to leave but the
campers retired to another campfire, cocktails and got up on Sunday to fish another day.
It was very nice being lulled to sleep by gobbling turkeys.  We cleaned our fish, cleaned
our sites and were on the road home for only a one hour drive. That is what is nice about
camping so close to home. I would suggest to anyone that missed this event, to not
miss it next year.
